Ok so Southern California, especially the Inland Empire (where we live) doesn’t have the best reputation anymore as far as public schools go. I mean, I’m sure there are still a good many out there, but when Chris and I were researching on what school we wanted James to go to after he graduates Kindergarten this June, we were literally frightened at the prospects put before us. 32-35 per classroom, no funds for practically anything, drop out rates at a scary high….
…so we ended up deciding that the best thing was to find a good private school, where he can be in a classroom that didn’t have more than 15-20 students per teacher, and plus a much better controlled environment. And trust me, this was a huge decision on my part, because when I was younger I would say things like, “I would never put my children in a stuffy private school where uniforms would steal their personalities”. Yeah, like I said, I was young :P
Anyway, to get to my point, we found one school that we really fell in love with… and their reputation for molding the kids to get good SAT stats by Jr High was highly acclaimed, not to mention the great Christian values they teach each and every child. I was pretty worried about the Entrance Exam, not that I thought James couldn’t cut it, just thought the whole thing was so pointless and, well, “stuffy”. The principal explained though, that the exams did have a point– they did want to make certain that each child that attends the school would be able to keep up with their level of teaching… otherwise, they’d be getting kids who would have struggled to keep up, etc. But James did pass, with flying colors, and we’re so proud!!!

He probably gets his smarts from Chris though, because heaven knows, sometimes I sure am not the brightest bulb in the pack :P

I think that was an absolutely awesome decision, Lorelei. At the same time, I’m sure you’re very proud of James for doing so well on the entrance exam. He is definitely a handsome little fella! : )
Congratulations to James! He’s such a cutie :D
Hip Hip Hurray!!!!! Great going, James!!!! Congrats to the new 1st Grader!!!!

AHHH!! My JuBZ! I’m so proud. I love my little jubberz!!!
No doubts about it….
Good job, James. But, Mom and Dad, I’d make sure all their teachers have teaching credentials. I’d also talk to some people who went to private schools, to get their opinions. Successful SAT prep isn’t everything. :) Much love.
Congrads Kyank!! good job James..I am so proud of him!!!!!!!
That’s awesome news! I don’t blame you for doing the private school thing. And while Chris is very smart, let’s hope James is more dedicated to his studies. ;) He’s still a bit young for girls to be too distracting though. LOL
Helloo Mom and Dad,
Good job for thinking ahead of time about your kids education…and between private and public
with all the horrible stories and never ending classroom congestion i for one was scared too when ashley is beginning to hit pre K so i did start her in a Christian private school in North Hollywood
and it was good stepping stone plus hurray for Missy who (thank you for being thre)with no whining ahe did’nt miss a day teaching ashley the most important thing a kid could learn….her love…patience…and attention while i was spending time in the freeway all day to earn a living…a person with those qualities is enough to teach a kid the value for perseverance…the will to learn and be a star all the time and 2 year of being in a christian school and 2 years in a catholic school is a good stepping stone for her to excel on everything …a lot of kids do good in private and lots oftthem in public ….so keep the good job and you lorie is also a smart one i know and you came from public school with flying colors…you just choose to be happy and that’s having your family…but you and chris are both smart that’s where Jams got the qualities ….
